UNCG issues improved safety equipment.

The safety and security of our Spartans and visitors is UNCG’s top priority, and maintaining a safe campus is everyone’s responsibility. That’s why we’re improving our public safety technologies – putting new safety tools in the palm of your hand.

UNCG announced the launch of the new Spartan safe app. The Spartan Safe app replaces the LiveSafe app, which will be discontinued on May 8. The Spartan Safe app offers many new and improved security tools and features in a user-friendly digital environment.

Through the Spartan Safe app you have quick access to:

• Walking friend: The Buddy Walk feature allows you to share your location with a family member or friend so they can track your location remotely while en route to your destination and make sure you arrive safely. No need to go alone!
• Mobile BluelightWhen you activate Mobile Bluelight’s emergency feature on campus, it will share your location with UNCG Police dispatch and prompt you to call UNCG Police. The call for help is no longer tied to the blue light location. If you need help, you can call from anywhere on campus.
• Report a tip: Do you have something to report? This feature gives you many options to connect UNCG Police – Including options to remain anonymous.
• Take action instructions: What do you do in an emergency? The Spartan Safe app has you covered. See guidelines and tips on what to do to prepare before an emergency strikes.

To accompany the Spartan Safe app, we’ve created Spartan Safe website Providing additional safety information and emergency alert messages. The Spartan Safe website serves as a one-stop shop for safety information and replaces the Spartan Alert website.

On campus, you’ll see about 50 blue light towers transformed into spartan safe stanchions. These stations will have security cameras and a QR code to call UNCG Police directly from your smartphone. The rest of the towers will be isolated and removed during the summer.
