Parish Creek Landing is a full-service marina located at the mouth of the West River and offers fuel (gas and diesel), indoor dry boat storage, both indoor and outdoor, and over 100 wet slips and plenty of land storage. Owner Andy Smith took over Parrish Creek Landing Marina last spring and made the clean marina certification an immediate goal.
The owners worked to modernize the old facility and invested in stormwater control, new bathrooms, new boat ramps, new travel elevators and forklifts, a new fuel system and a new pump station purchased with a grant from the Department of Natural Resources.
“We are excited to see this property transform into a clean marina in just one year,” said Clean Marina Program Manager Donna Morrow. “Boaters will certainly appreciate the improvements, which have the added bonus of helping to improve local water quality, which is essential for good boating and fishing.”
Some of the practices the marina has implemented include recycling boat wraps, assembling oil spill response kits, marking all fuel tanks and removing some that are not in use. The owners are also working on landscaping the marina.
“It’s rewarding to see our investments improve the marina, and knowing it benefits the river and the Chesapeake Bay shoreline,” Smith said. “The Clean Marina Program is an integral part of our strategy to implement best practices and make long-term improvements to take our marina to the next level. We are very proud of the entire team that worked to achieve the Clean Marina certification.
