The City of Burlington launches a teacher education program

Goff Justice announces a $20 million expansion of nursing education programs

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) — The City of Burlington is launching an education program to train teachers so they can help fill gaps in early childhood programs across the region.

They have partnered with Enables Child Development for a pilot program that will offer a free early childhood training program to 15 aspiring teachers.

The program will include a free Vermont Community College course and is open to Burlington residents who have a high school diploma or GED or are graduating this spring. Once trained, the teachers will be able to work in childcare centers across the region.

“We work to support people who want to join the program, but we also support programs that are able to recruit those people who are ready to join these classes who are confident and ready to continue learning from people who are already in the program,” says Rebecca Rees, director of the Early Learning Initiative at Burlington. Applications are currently open, with a start date sometime in April.
