The ESC, an alternative education resource for students, hosted the job fair at 7320 North Palmyra Road in Canfield. They were one of fifteen schools represented at the job fair from the greater Mahoning Valley.

In addition to traditional teachers, many participating districts are looking for applicants to fill substitute teaching positions and general school staff.

‘It’s a great time to go into education’

According to Western Reserve High School principal Michael Gorby, the district is looking for two to three teachers to join the staff.

“It’s a great time to go into education,” Gorby said. “This is a great opportunity to see different positions available in our public districts here in Mahoning County. (it’s) a good way to get yourself out there and introduce yourself.”

According to representatives from Youngstown City Schools District, there are also several open positions they’re looking to fill.

“Currently, we’re looking to hire for about 30 or so positions,” said Bill Baun, director of personnel at YCSD. “Especially Special Education, as well as math and science, in grades seven through 12. Those are our big areas of impact now.”

In addition to YCSD and Western Reserve Local Schools, candidates lined up to speak with recruiting representatives from organizations like Boardman Local School District, Potential Development, South Range Local Schools, Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities and many more.

“It’s a great time because there are a lot of positions available, so applicants have many options,” Baun said. “I think it’s a great time to get into education because there are so many opportunities for folks right now to help their community.”
