Nice weather led to nice performances in the Warren 4 Eisenhower District track and field sweep Wednesday at War Memorial Field.
“We were happy to move the meeting to slightly better weather today,” Warren coach Kevin Dustin said. “We were able to move some of the kids around to do different events to score points in areas they might not normally do. The kids were excited to jump wherever they could, which was really nice. We were thrilled with the wins on both sides and are looking forward to going to the SRU Invite this weekend.” .
In the Lady Dragons’ 123-26 win, Lindsey Madison and Maddie Nussel finished 1-2 in the 100-meter dash and Sean Rolander, Morgan Alexander and Hannah Pearson finished 1-2-3 in both the 1600m and 3200m races. Lily Newton of Warren easily won the 400-meter and high jump, and held off teammates Nossel and Lauren Wagbeck to win the 200-meter event. Madigan and teammate Gina Covazzi finished first and second in the long jump at 15 ft 1 in and 14 ft 9 in respectively, Madigan also placed first in the triple jump for her third individual win.
Warren won all three relay events and junior Lani Gatto moved closer to her goal of breaking the school pole vault record with her winning height of 9 feet. Kaelin Hatfield finished a second or two ahead of teammates Alexander and Riley Powers to win the 800m event.
For the Lady Knights, senior Mackenzie Dunn was the winner in the putt (finishing 1-2 with teammate Logan Grove) and the discus. Grove won the javelin, and Marissa Gurley placed first in the 100-meter hurdles and third behind Evelyn Igner and Warren Ellie Yeager in the 300-meter hurdles.

In Warren’s 100-49 boys win, Ethan Best of the Dragons dominated both hurdles and also won the 200m. Parker Sheen beats teammate Jeremiah Richardson in the 100m. Sam Lindell easily won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, and held off teammates Corbin Reynard and Matt Sawa by less than two seconds to win the 800-meter race.
Shin also won the triple jump and long jump, besting Eisenhower’s Austin Hanold, even though they both jumped 18 feet 8 inches.
For the riders, Mikael Beaver won the javelin and pole vault twice, Joe Mistretta won the 400m, Benjy Power won the shot put, Preston Wilkins won the high jump, and Caleb Penley won the discus. Hannold was also part of the winning Ike team in the 400m relay with Bauer, Beaver and Ryan Chambers, who also finished second in the 200m.
