City says 7,000 summer jobs are available for Boston youth ages 14 to 18

Shirley LaSilla, 87, a resident of Laureum, died April 18, 2023, at Mission Point in Hancock.

Shirley was born on August 24, 1935, in Copper City, to the late Oskar and Hannah (Heikkinen) Keranen. Shirley graduated from Calumet High School in 1959.

She married her husband, George, in February 1969. George died in October 1970.

She worked various jobs and retired from Michigan Technological University in 1996.

Shirley loved to hunt for garnets and enjoyed the sunset at her camp in Cedar Bay. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers Oscar, Arthur, Raymond, Helmi Herkas, John, William, and Mary Kilbela, and four infant brothers Peter, Robin, Donald, and David.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Marn (Dean) Anderson, brothers Roy (Marilyn) Keranen, Paul (Virginia) Keranen, George (Cathy) Keranen and Michael (Sandra) Keranen, and sisters-in-law Priscilla Keranen and Jean Keranen. . She is also survived by her grandchildren Ellie, Axel (Molly), Lenny, Molly, Wyatt, Trudy, Hazel, Mindy, and her granddaughter, Louisa.

A service for Shirley will be held at First Apostolic Church in Calumet, Michigan on Monday, April 24 at 12 noon with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate.

A visit will take place from 10 am to 12 noon

Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery.

The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home will assist the family with arrangements.
