Boardman – Robert R. “Tye” Rothgup, 76, is peacefully in the arms of his family, Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at St Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
He was born on January 15, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of the late Randall and Edith May Hunter Rothgib. He graduated from Boardman High School in 1965. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving three years on the USS Essex. After his stint, he came home to marry the love of his life and high school sweetheart, former Sandy Beckman, and together they had two children and built an amazing life together.
He was a talented self-employed salesperson, most recently working for Communication Broker, in both sales and installation. His prowess was not limited to his professional career. If something was broken, he was the go-to “Mr. Fix it” to get things back in order.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and cooking. He loved being outside in nature, especially anywhere near water. He had a pontoon boat he would take his family on board, taught his children how to water ski, and could often be found with a fishing rod, whether it was on Pymatuning or the various lakes around the area. But most of all, he was a true family man. He lived to see them happy, and was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Sandy; He has Shannon (Gary) Bueno of North Jackson and Ryan (Amanda) Rothgip of Liberty; his grandchildren, Garrett Bueno, William Rothgib, Abigail Bueno and Addison Rothgib; his sister, Judy Carson, from Poland; and nephews and nephews, Jay (Jill) Carson, Carrie Carson, Ashley (Kenny) Lucas and Lindsey (Jeff) Naumoff.
He was preceded to death by his parents.
A celebration of life will take place later.
