What happens if I don’t pay my taxes?

Your property tax includes:

  • Municipal department – based on the budget of the city council collections
    • What the money was used for: 2021
    • City of Lethbridge financial highlights
  • *Education Tax – To support the public education system, which includes public and separate school boards. The Government of Alberta determines the amount of education tax that each municipality in Alberta pays
  • * A Green acre tax – To support the operation of their senior housing management body in southern Alberta. This volume was developed by Green Acres Foundation.
  • Some residents pay local improvement fees

* The City of Lethbridge is required by law to collect additional taxes from property owners on behalf of the Government of Alberta and the Green Acres Foundation. This is not additional income for the city. The City of Lethbridge collects these taxes only and has no authority or control over the allocation or practice of taxes by these entities.
