Goff Justice announces a $20 million expansion of nursing education programs

The following announcement is from Jane Capps, Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

I am very pleased to announce that, following a national search, Dr. Cindy Bumgarner has been selected as Cal Poly Humboldt’s new Dean for the College of Extended Education and Global Engagement (CEEGE). Dr. Baumgarner’s appointment is effective as of July 1, 2023.

Dr. Bumgarner is currently the Associate Vice Provost for the Department of Undergraduate Education and the Faculty Chair of the Vice Chancellor at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining UC Berkeley, Dr. Baumgarner was Director of Summer Sessions at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Emeritus Lecturer in German Studies and Director of the Center for Multimedia Language Education at California State University, Chico.

Throughout her career, Dr. Baumgarner has provided leadership focused on the creative construction of state-of-the-art comprehensive professional development and academic opportunities in all institutions of higher education. This has included implementing strategic enrollment plans and dual degree programs, building faculty-led study abroad programs, increasing equality in staff diversity and incorporating professional development opportunities, and coordinating reaffirmations in her role as WSCUC Accreditation Liaison at UC Berkeley.

I am really excited to welcome Dr. Bumgarner to Cal Poly Humboldt and the Academic Affairs leadership team. Her extensive experience in a wide range of innovative academic fields along with her strategic mindset will be a great asset to CEEGE and the Humboldt community.

“I am thrilled to be joining the vibrant Cal Poly Humboldt community, especially as it takes on the inspiring work of reimagining itself. I am both excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve students and the community, and look forward to the many collaborative partnerships I hope to forge.”

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Cyril Oberlander for his leadership over the past two years as Interim Dean of CEEGE while also serving in his continuing role as Dean of the Library. In addition, thanks to the Search Committee and in particular Deserie Donae who acted as Chair of the Search Committee.

sincerely,

Jane Capps, Ph.D.
