SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa — North Union’s Olivia Merrill is ranked in the top three in two events to lead the Warriors track and field team in the Spirit Lake Co-Invitational meet Tuesday at Sherrill Mahes Racecourse in Spirit Lake.

Merrill tied for second with Spencer’s Ileana Heisinger in the shot put with a throw of 36-0 and finished third in the discus with a throw of 103-2.

As a team, the girls finished fifth with 44 points, and the boys finished eighth with 22 points. Spencer won the girls’ meet with 167 points, while the host school won the boys’ meet with 169 points.

For the Northern Union boys, Brier Prochnyak won the 100m with a time of 11.23. Prochniak’s team finished ahead of Sioux Central’s Greg Peterson, who had a time of 11.39, and Spirit Lake’s Logan Sandman, who had a time of 11.84.

The boys 4×100 relay finished third with Landon Price, Carter Morpheo, Preston Gourdet and Prochnyak clocking in at 45.00.

4 x 100 was a close end where only 0.16 was the difference between first and third. Sandman Spirit Lake, Jake Cornwall, Drew Alger and Joey Andres won in a time of 44.44, while Okoboji’s Tyler Sihman, Joe Salmon, Ethan Schleacher and Jimmy Santos finished second in a time of 44.62.

The other girls in the top three are Jesse Welbig in the 800-meter dash and Lbby Stevens in the 40-meter dash.

Both were third in a row.

Welbig’s time was 2:53.40 and Stevens ran 1:08.45.

Spencer’s Peyton Morey and Okoboji’s Grace Pausley finished first and second in the 800 with times of 2:42.06 and 2:51.60, while Emmetsburg’s Rachel Chaney and Okoboji’s Zoe Holmes finished first and second in the 400, with running times of 1:011.75 and 1:02.90. , respect.

In addition to the girls, the four-distance Warriors squad of Ella Ulrich, Shelby Fraker, Naomi Jones and Welbig placed second in 4:45.46.

Spirit Lake’s team of Rhys Keenan, Ellie Boulwit, Faith DeWild and Charlotte Pritchard was the first with a time of 4:45.05.

Girls are back in action today in Northern Iowa and boys are running Fridays in Estherville Lincoln Central.
