Linda May (Horn) Eyre, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Premier Healthcare in Nashua, New Hampshire. She was the widow of the late Donald R. Ayer, who passed away in August 1983 after a marriage of 32 years.
Linda was born on October 28, 1929, in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Malcolm C. Horn and Anna (Vandeusen) Horn.
Linda and her two sisters, Wilma and Alma, grew up in Buffalo, New York, where they graduated from Bennett High School and went to State University of New York at Buffalo. After graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, she went on to teach second grade in Kenmore, New York.
After marrying Donald Ayer in 1951, Linda joined Don for a summer job at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls, New York, in the Dynamics division. The next step was Wellsville, New York, where she taught first grade until her first daughter was born.
A business visit by her husband to Nashua, New Hampshire, resulted in a job opportunity at his former firm, Sanders Associates. Soon after, the move to Nashua took place in 1955.
In her new city, Linda became involved by attending Board of Education meetings, and joining the Newcomers Club (where she was soon voted president). This was the first of many organizations she became president of: Broad St. PTA; a little ladies club; Nashua Theater Guild and NH Community Theater Association.
Linda has been heavily involved with the Nashua Theater Guild and has been seen in many productions over many years. When she wasn’t acting, she was always busy behind the scenes. I also worked as a substitute teacher in the Nashua School System for a long period of time.
Linda spent some of the most enjoyable times at her chalet in Guildford, New Hampshire, where the family of seven enjoyed winter skiing in the Gunstock Ski Area and summer swimming and boating on Lake Winnipesaukee.
After her husband’s death, Linda worked for Sanders Associates in the security field until she retired in 1998. Shortly thereafter she worked at Out of the Woods gift shop in Merrimack, New Hampshire until its closure.
Along with her parents and husband, Linda is predeceased by her sister, Wilma Mayer.
