Higgins WNY Announces $750,000 to Help E-Commerce Start and Expand Small Businesses


During Small Business Week, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced $750,000 in federal funding to facilitate opportunities for Western New York startups and existing small businesses to develop websites and increase online sales. Funding secured by Congressman Higgins in the 2022 budget is directing the e-commerce program to the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Buffalo State.

Congressman Higgins: “Today’s interconnected world offers small business owners access to a global customer base. And while they’re great at what they do, most of these owners don’t have the knowledge or resources to develop a well-designed, secure, and effective website. Led by a team of experts at SUNY Buffalo State’s Small Business Development Center, this program opens doors of opportunity for local entrepreneurs and supports Western New York’s small business growth.

With resources secured by Congressman Higgins, the SBDC at SUNY Buffalo State has established a free program to help minority and women-owned businesses in Western New York grow and improve their online business plans. Before working with experienced website developers to improve or create a website, owners complete a detailed survey of their business, brand identity, desired website features, and company goals. More than twenty local entrepreneurs have already benefited from the program.
