Just three months ago, we unveiled the new AI-powered Microsoft Bing and Edge for your web co-pilot to reinvent the future of search. We aimed to tackle a universal problem with traditional search – half of all web searches go unanswered, leaving billions of people searching for less than ideal results. We launched the new Bing to bring you better search results, answers to your questions, the ability to create and write, and a new level of usability by being able to chat in natural language. Bing combines powerful language models like Open AI’s GPT-4 to provide up-to-date, cited and trending results from our massive search index. This is fundamentally changing the way people access information.

I’m excited to share that we’re transitioning to next-generation AI-powered Bing and Edge to transform the world’s largest software category — search — by greatly expanding the vision and capabilities of what we envision as your web assistant. This next generation is characterized by:
- Opening Bing to more people by moving from limited preview to open preview and eliminating the trial waiting list.
- From text-only search and chat to one that is incredibly more visually rich with image/video answers and new multimodal support coming soon.
- Take it from single-use chat/browsing sessions to multi-session productivity experiences with chat history and continuous conversations in Edge.
- Opening platform capabilities for developers and third parties to build on Bing to help people act on their queries and complete tasks.

Making search more visual
Research shows that the human brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than text, making visual tools a critical way for people to search, create and understand. Bing has always been known for its visual experiences, including knowledge cards and visual search features. And now we’re offering those same experiences in chat. We recently announced a merger. Bing image creator The new Bing Chat experience makes Bing the only search experience with the ability to generate text and visual content from within chats in one place. Moving from production to stage
The new AI-powered Bing helps people easily find or create what they want, making it a great tool for understanding and taking action on conversations. Image creator integration saves you time by completing the task of creating the image you want in a chat.
We’ll soon be building third-party plugins into the Bing Chat experience to create a platform for developers. For example, if you’re researching the latest restaurant for dinner in Bing Chat, it uses OpenTable to help you find and make a reservation. Or, with Wolfram|Alpha, you can create powerful visualizations and answer complex science, math, and human-sourced data-driven questions directly from Bing Chat. We’re working with our partners at OpenAI to make it as easy and consistent as possible for developers to take advantage of this opportunity. We believe these types of capabilities are a game changer in reinventing search and advancing opportunities for developers in search.
