
Sami Saeed, a freshman at Richard Montgomery High School, has been elected as a Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Saeed’s term begins on July 1, 2023.
We are all high school studentsre eligible to vote in smob elections and 55598 Students cast their votes. Mr. Said received 70 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Mr. Youssef Zerihoun, a junior at Springbrook High School, received 30 percent. tThe SMOB election was held on April 19, 2023 through an electronic ballot that all students received in their MCPS email and were encouraged to vote through class lesson.
Mr. Sami Said is currently the President of the Richard Montgomery Government Student Association (SGA), and is a member of the SMOB Advisory Board and the Montgomery County Youth and Children Committee. He is an avid writer and has written for both Extension, Student newspaper Richard Montgomery, W MoCo student Newspaper.
SMOB is a voting member of the Montgomery County Board of Education. The SMOB can vote on matters related to collective bargaining, capital and operating budgets, school closures, reopenings, and limits. SMOB cannot vote on individuals’ negative actions. SMOB is not paid, but does receive an undergraduate scholarship of up to $25,000, student service learning hours, and honors-level social studies credit.
Mr. happy He will replace Arvin Kim, a student at Walt Whitman High School, who will graduate in June. The 46th member will be a student on the board.
