press release
Developer tools for creating spatial experiences for Apple Vision Pro are now available
The visionOS Software Development Kit (SDK) enables Apple’s developer community to bring their applications to life as possible.
Cupertino, California Apple today announced the availability of new software tools and technologies for Apple Vision Pro — Apple’s first space computing technology that enables developers to create app experiences. Featuring VisionOS, the world’s first location-based operating system, Vision Pro enables users to interact with digital content in their physical space using the most natural and intuitive inputs possible – their eyes, hands and voice. Starting today, Apple’s global community of developers can create an entirely new set of spatial computing applications that take full advantage of the infinite canvas in Vision Pro and integrate digital content with the physical world to create extraordinary new experiences. With the visionOS SDK, developers can leverage the powerful and unique capabilities of Vision Pro and visionOS to design new app experiences in a variety of categories, including productivity, design, gaming, and more.
Next month, Apple will open developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo to provide hands-on experience for developers to test their applications on Apple Vision Pro hardware and get support from Apple engineers. Development teams can apply for a developer kit to help them quickly build, iterate and test on Apple Vision Pro.
“Apple Vision Pro redefines what’s possible on the computing platform. “Developers can start building VisioOS applications using the powerful frameworks they’re familiar with, and continue their development using new tools and technologies like Reality Composer Pro to design new experiences for their users,” said Susan Prescott, Apple vice president. International development relations. “Using the space around the user, spatial computing opens up new possibilities for our developers, and allows them to imagine new ways for their users to connect, be productive and enjoy new forms of entertainment. We can’t wait to see what our developer community dreams up.”
Developers can build new experiences that leverage the core features of Apple Vision Pro using the same basic frameworks they know from other Apple platforms, including powerful technologies like Xcode, SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKit, and TestFlight. These tools allow developers to create different types of immersion, including windows that display depth and 3D content. Volumes create experiences that can be seen from any angle; and Open Spaces, which can fully immerse the user into the environment with unlimited 3D content. To help developers improve 3D content for VisionOS apps and games, Reality Composer Pro, an all-new tool in Xcode, lets them preview and compose 3D models, animations, images, and sounds, so they look amazing on Vision Pro. Developers can interact with their applications in the new visionOS simulator to explore and experiment with different room layouts and lighting conditions. And each developer framework comes with built-in support for Apple’s innovative accessibility features to ensure spatial computing and VisionOS applications are accessible to everyone.
Starting next month, developers building 3D apps and games with Unity’s powerful authoring tools will be able to export their Unity apps to Apple Vision Pro and take full advantage of its powerful capabilities.
Developers who previewed the VisionOS SDK and APIs were excited about the platform’s capabilities and how it would enable them to create new application experiences for their users.
With Apple Vision Pro Complete HeartX Using hyper-realistic 3D models and animations to understand and visualize medical issues like ventricular fibrillation and how to apply that knowledge to patients will help prepare medical students for clinical practice, said Jan Herzhoff, president of Elsevier Health. “HeartX learning completed on Apple Vision Pro will transform medical education and prepare future healthcare professionals for practice.”
” of DJ The app puts the Apple Vision Pro fully featured DJ system at the user’s fingertips. With a redesigned spatial interface, anyone can mix their favorite music and apply real-time effects using only their eyes and hands,” said Karim Morsi, CEO of Algorithm. “For both the beginner and the seasoned professional, djay on Vision Pro transforms the user’s environment with stunning environments that respond to their mixes, allowing them to experience and interact with the music completely.
“JigSpace And Apple Vision Pro empowers people and businesses to easily communicate their ideas or products in all new ways,” said Zach Duff, co-founder and CEO of GigSpace. “It leverages the high-quality CAD files companies already have, so their marketing, sales, product or support teams can securely collaborate with colleagues or customers from anywhere in the world and get people to that ‘Aha!’ It usually takes a few moments. This rapid and effective communication was never possible before.
“Manufacturers can use AR solutions from PTC Bringing interactive 3D content into the real world to collaborate on critical business problems – from a single product to an entire product line,” said Stephen Prideaux-Ghee, PTC’s chief technology officer for AR/VR. “With Apple Vision Pro, stakeholders across departments and locations can review content simultaneously to make design and operational decisions. This capability unlocks a level of collaboration not previously possible.”
The visionOS SDK, updated Xcode, Simulator and Reality Composer Pro are available for Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com. Registered Apple developers can access a variety of resources to design, develop, and test applications for Apple Vision Pro, including extensive technical documentation, a new design kit, and updated human interface guides for VisionOS.
