Wintersville officials announce that Village Mayor Mike Petrella is recovering after he was attacked Friday morning.

According to the release issued by Village Superintendent Jesse Kosegee, Petrella suffered minor injuries when he was physically assaulted by an unknown man at approximately 10:45 a.m. while delivering mail at the Wintersville Post Office.

Petrella told officers he was in his personal car and put his mail in the outside trunk when the suspect approached the car and asked if it was Mike Petrella. When Petrella reached out to shake hands with the unidentified male, the individual attacked Petrella physically by hitting him in the face and then left the area in a silver pickup truck.
