
WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) — KWWL and the RJ McElroy Trust announce that ten Black Hawk County teachers have received the 2023 Gold Star Award for Outstanding Teaching.
For the 35th year of the awards, The McElroy Trust has received 1,095 nominations for 449 teachers in Black Hawk County. Teachers have been nominated by students, parents, community members, and colleagues.
Each of the 10 recipients will receive an astronomical $1,000 bonus, plus $1,000 for classroom improvement.
These are the Black Hawk County educators receiving the 2023 award:

A free, open event honoring this year’s laureates will take place on Wednesday, May 10 at 7:00 pm at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the campus of Northern Iowa University.
