Sullivan becomes USD's 33rd NCAA Graduate Scholarship Student

Vermilion, SD-South Dakota Athletics Jesse Sullivan His dedication in the classroom and on the track earned him the NCAA Graduate School Scholarship. Sullivan receives a one-time $ 10,000 scholarship used for graduate research.

The NCAA Graduate Scholarship Program was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by commending the association’s best student athletes. The NCAA awards 126 scholarships annually across all sports and departments. Winners must have an average of at least 3.2 grade points, be nominated by a representative of the track and field club, and intend to pursue graduate research.

Sullivan joined the other 32 coyotes who received this scholarship, 21 of whom were also members of the coyote athletics program. Sullivan is the first recipient of indoor athletics in US dollars.

Sullivan is a two-time discus summit league champion and has been honored in all six leagues. He broke the South Dakota program record with a hammer throw at the Summit Championship two weeks ago.

Originally from Albion, Nebraska, Sullivan participated in the NCAA West Preliminary’s second straight season with discus and hammer throws. He is a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic winner and has created four Summit League All-Academic teams so far. In addition to his school record in hammer throws, he is ranked in the top five in US dollar history for weight throws, discus throws, and both indoor and outdoor shot put. He was selected for the Summit League Commissioner’s Academic Excellence List, and the Summit League honors have been honored throughout his career.

Sullivan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in May and earned a full undergraduate GPA of 4.00. He will be attending UNMC next year in Omaha, Nebraska.
