North Canton – The founder of a website developed to help people find entry-level jobs has created a new site with links and information about vocational schools.
This site is best-trade-school.net. Visitors can link to their area of interest and use their zip code to find a nearby trading school that offers training. This site provides information about the school’s potential career and contact information.
Doug Crawford launched Job-Applications.com in 2010 with the goal of helping young, inexperienced workers find entry-level or part-time jobs. He applies the formula to the vocational school website.
According to Crawford, the average number of visits to this site is 30,000-40,000 per month. Visitors can link to and print job listings, listen to interview tips, and use the site to hear from people who have started their careers.
High schools tend to prepare students for college careers, but not everyone wants to go on to college, Crawford said. A vocational school is a place where people can start jobs that lead to high-paying careers.
Recent graduates and those wishing to change jobs are moving to a trading school where they can learn new skills.
The coronavirus pandemic has led many to consider changes, Crawford said. Realizing that they were unemployed due to a shutdown, restaurant workers began to consider other options. Crawford said it is estimated that a quarter of the people who worked in restaurants chose to look for other jobs.
He has spent the last two years developing websites. He said it took time to build and gain traction at vocational schools across the country.
Training may be provided through school and union apprenticeship programs, Crawford said.
Like Job-Applications.com, Crawford offers a $ 1,000 “New Journeys” scholarship contest to help people cover the costs of vocational schools. Since 2013, the Job-Applications.com site has offered over $ 40,000 in scholarships.
This site helps visitors connect to 20 different carrier options. Half are related to medical professionals such as dentistry, pharmacies and phlebotomy technicians. Site visitors can also investigate their careers as welders, machinists, or electricians.
Crawford hopes this site will be useful to those looking for a new start.
“I’m ready now. I hope it helps when preparing for a new trip,” he said.
